McStain Neighborhoods Receives 2022 Housing Innovation Award

McStain Neighborhoods Receives 2022 Housing Innovation Award

We are honored to have been named a Housing Innovation Award Winner once again this year by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). These awards became an annual tradition in 2013 to recognize home builders striving for Zero Energy Ready and the astounding innovation that goes into achieving that designation. We were thrilled to have earned a Housing Innovation Award in 2021 as well, and will continue to both participate and innovate our homes in this exciting award show each year.

Homes recognized are typically 40 to 50% more efficient than your average new build, and feature renewable energy systems that can offset the energy they use. Being a winner means raising the bar for American home buyers and setting a standard for builders across the country when it comes to energy efficiency, clean energy, indoor air quality, water conservation and more.

We entered one of our BeWell Townhomes at Arras Park into the “Attached Homes” category. This home received our lowest HERS Score (Home Energy Rating System) year to date of 26, which was one of the lowest among all winning homes! The HERS Index is the nationally recognized system for assessing energy performance, and the lower the score the more energy efficient the home.

Our winning home was also acknowledged for its WaterSense certification, ensuring all fixtures and appliances meet the EPA’s certification criteria for both water efficiency and performance. Arras Park is Colorado’s largest 100% WaterSense certified community, an achievement that did not happen by accident. We were intentional and dedicated to meeting the water conservation needs of a state facing persistent drought, and are grateful to be esteemed for this accomplishment and to inspire others to follow suit.

While our winning home has some stand-out features, we are proud to say that every BeWell House comes standard with all of the DOE’s ZERH national program requirements, including:

ENERGY STAR® label that means your new home has been designed and built to standards well above other homes in the market today

EPA Indoor airPLUS certification that requires construction practices and product specifications that minimize exposure to airborne pollutants and contaminants.

☆ Adhering to DOE Building America Research-to-Market Process

These awards are a tremendous honor, as winners are recognized not just for hitting certain markers for energy efficiency, but for going above and beyond. Homes in this year’s winners were praised for advanced construction practices that reduce waste and construction time, along with superior workforce development to inspire future generations of sustainable building. We are proud to stand among other forward-thinkers who are actively addressing the climate crisis in every aspect of their product. Together we can pave the way for a greener tomorrow.
